Description:

Sipi Falls are a series of three beautiful waterfalls formed by the Sipi River which originates from the slopes of Mount Elgon (Mount Elgon National Park). The falls lie at Chiboneta, a small trading centre, situated between Mbale & Kapchorwa district in Eastern Uganda.

 

The Sipi Falls are worth visiting to travelers who wish to adventure the other side of the country or try escape the city & town hassles.  Hikes around the Sipi Falls offer stunning views of the Lake Kyoga, Karamoja plains to the north, and the slopes of Mount Elgon to the east. Here, several companies operate a great number of campsites & lodges that cater for all budgets.  All the lodges and campsites can organize walks to the base of the falls at reasonable fee.

Treks to the base of the 100m Sipi waterfalls, guided walks in the surrounding hills, visits to several caves along the river, Trout fishing on the Sipi River, rock climbing, hiking, Mount Elgon expedition & birdwatching.

 

Getting there:

Sipi Falls is 60km from Mbale town on the Kapchorwa Road. Minibuses-taxis run between Mbale & Kapchorwa daily and those returning to Mbale from Kapchorwa, often come through Sipi falls.
