Description:
Swedish minister for Trade Ewa Björling will visit Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique on 23-27 January to enhance trade relations and business opportunities for Swedish companies in Eastern and Southern Africa.
“Africa’s growth figures are among the highest in the world. It’s a fast-growing market with great potential for Swedish investments and Swedish exports. Many Swedish companies are already established there, but for many others the opportunities that Africa offers are still relatively unknown. We hope to change that,” says Dr Björling.
Ewa Björling is scheduled to have talks with government representatives in Kampala, Dar es Salaam and Maputo, and representatives of the East African Community. Dr Björling will also visit a trade policy research institute in Arusha.
In addition, the minister and representatives of Swedish companies will together visit the UN logistics base in Entebbe, which provides equipment to UN operations in African. Dr Björling will be meeting representatives of Swedish companies in all three countries. A regional round-table discussion on illegal trade in endangered animal species will be jointly hosted by Tanzania and the Minister for Trade.
“To achieve my vision of doubled exports by 2015, Sweden must broaden its export profile, both in terms of products and markets. Sweden has a great deal to offer Africa, not least in the energy and ICT sectors. It is also important to continue the dialogue on human rights and to focus on the opportunities offered by corporate social responsibility.”
