There is an annual sport fishing competition that lasts for three days at US$160 per person. The largest confirmed perch taken from Murchison Falls on River Nile on rod and line weighed 73kg. It was caught by C D Mardach in 1959. However, in 2001, a fish recorded at 106kg was caught while local fishermen have always netted specimens weighing up to 160kg.
For those who have never tried trout fishing before, then you must try the Elgon Trout Fly Fishing run by Bingo Small and located within the secluded upper reaches of the Sipi River. The Rainbow Trout fly fishing is currently 'catch and release' only. Rods and equipment are available for hire at the Sipi river lodge www.sipiriverlodge.com
