Description:
They may not be as wide as the Ssese Islands, but the privately owned Bulago Islands are worth a visit if you are travelling to Kampala. “What an amazing Island for a holiday!!!” – a frequent traveler said.
Bulago a ‘Luganda’ word to mean neck because of their neck-like formation – are perfectly located within Lake Victoria, east of Entebbe International Airport.
Bulago is the first island in Lake Victoria to be developed exclusively for leisure use. The Island has some of the excellent beaches owned by local and expatriate residents and professionals.
Many thanks to the proprietors of Bulago Island who have set a trend in the development of eco -tourism in Uganda. The island is now back to its original natural forest cover which had been badly damaged by migrant fishermen years before. The new management embarked on aggressive reforestation programme and sensitization of local fishermen in sustainable and modern fishing skills which to-date have seen positive results payoff.
While owning a complete island no doubt has a certain romantic appeal, beach front plots on Bulago have the attraction of existing infrastructure being in place which will greatly ease the business of creating the perfect beachside property. One acre lakefront plots measure approx 40 metres by 100 metres, with the 40 metres being lakefront.
