The IPU Assembly (formerly known as the Inter-Parliamentary Conference) is the principal statutory body that expresses the views of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on political issues. It brings together parliamentarians to study international problems and make recommendations for action.
Delegations attending IPU Assemblies customarily include members of parliament (MPs) from all political parties. The Assembly meets twice a year (in the spring and autumn) and is held each time in a different country, providing participants with an opportunity to see various national realities.
Statutory assemblies and conferences have been held since 1889 with the first conference in Paris (France) and the 125th in Bern (Switzerland) in 2011. The 126th Assembly will take place in Kampala (Uganda) and will be followed by the 127th Assembly in Quebec City (Canada), from 21-26 October 2012
The IPU assembly comes to Uganda at the time the country was voted the #1 top travel destination for 2012 by the world’s largest travel guide book and digital media publisher – Lonely Planet.
